A star drawn by hundreds of drone lights above a dark sea, mirrored in the water.

Draw a shape in the sky, in a single stroke.

What the Sky Holds

Draw a shape: a thousand lights hold it for a moment above the sea.

A contemplative, interactive night on the beach: a fleet of light drones waits on a barge 320 meters out to sea. Draw a shape in the sky in a single stroke, and the drones take off to draw it, a circle made perfect, a star made regular; a free scribble is flown as it is. Each figure then lives a little: a star twinkles and sways, a circle breathes, a wave ripples. Between drawings the fleet flies its own program; “Play a figure” picks one of its six figures at random.

Keyboard: 1 to 6 choose a figure (wave, circle, star, heart, crescent moon, infinity), R plays one at random, L lands the fleet or starts the show again, E toggles long exposure. Customize sets the drones' colours (one per figure, gold, warm white, ice, rose, a rainbow where every drone has its own colour, or a drifting aurora), the size of the fleet (300 to 2,000) and its pace. Escape closes the panel, then restores the interface.

The fleet is getting ready…
